Tsering Palmo scales Mount Lhotse
ITANAGAR, May 26: Tsering Palmo, a young Arunachalee girl has scaled Mount Lhotse, the fourth highest peak in the world on May 25. She scaled the 8516 mtr peak at 0630 hrs as a member of the Snow lion Expedition Team. The Peak best known for its proximity to Mount Everest is located in the border between Nepal and Tibet.
Palmo hails from Tashigong in Tuting, Upper Siang. She is the daughter of Chime Khampa.

PPA, Gamlin mourn Ratan Tama’s demise
ITANAGAR, May 26: People's Party of Arunachal deeply mourned the untimely demise of former Rajya Sabha member Ratan Tama. With his demise the people of Arunachal Pradesh have lost one of its pioneering social and political leaders, the Party said while adding that Arunachal will always remember his contributions.
Former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin has deeply mourned the demise of erstwhile Rajya Sabha MP Ratan Tama.
“Having had the good fortune to interact very closely with the departed leader, the tragedy also becomes very personal. In the demise of Ratan Tama, the State has lost a pioneering leader of stature whose presence always symbolized strength and unity. He, and his generation of leaders, have given shape to what we have as a State today and we must always cherish his contributions in Arunachal’s history”, Gamlin said.

CoSAAP seeks early release of DA
ITANAGAR, May 26: Confederation of Service Association of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP) met Development Commissioner Finance recently and submitted a memorandum for early release of 7% Dearness Allowances which is due from January 1.
The delegation led by its president NL Togu and Secretary General Patey Marik also apprised the commissioner regarding other grievances like housing, transport and children’s education allowances and appealed to the Commissioner to look into the matter.
DA declares bandh as illegal
ITANAGAR May 26: The standoff between the state government and bandh callers continues as the district administration today declared bandh on 28 May illegal saying that it disrupts public peace and tranquility.
In a meeting convened by deputy commissioner capital complex, which was attended by superintendent of police and various officers in charge of police stations, the district administration stated that 144 CrPC will be clamped during the bandh hour to maintain law and order.
Further DA appealed to all citizens to keep their business open during the bandh to discourage the bandh culture.
Meanwhile in a joint statement Arunachal Pradesh Abo Tani Clans Youth Organization, All Nyishi Youth Council and All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Forum reiterated to go ahead with the 12 hours bandh.
It further rejected the government statement that organizations were politically motivated.

Tuki was making his opinion clear in a public meeting followed by inauguration of a tourist lodge at Tirbin, West Siang district on Friday.

FGA organises training on Water Quality Testing
Pasighat, May 26: Future Generations Arunachal (FGA) in collaboration with Public Health Engineering and Water Supply department (PHE & WS), Pasighat division organized training on Water Quality Testing Field Test Kit for Gram Panchayat members in East Siang district on May 25 at ADC, Conference hall, Mebo. Selected members from the listed Gram Panchayats from the surrounding villages participated in the programme with full enthusiasm.

Biswas, ASW and Tung Tabing, Consultant (PHE & WS) Pasighat division also participated in the training programme and encouraged the participants to catch up the training methods so that they can perform the testing procedure in their respective villages to effectively monitor the drinking water quality and its sources in the coming days.

Mone Gurung, Project Coordinator, FGA, facilitated the training sessions describing the responsibilities of Panchayat members for effective monitoring of water quality to the participants. He encouraged the participants to take the maximum opportunities of the training programme. After demonstrative training, field practical is more important and effective, he added.
Earlier, Anyak Mize, Project Coordinator (PPP), FGA explained organization’s objectives and the programmes. She advised the participants to take the maximum benefits from the training. If we are free from illnesses then yearly we can save some amount of money which can be utilized in other work through which we can uplift our living standard, she said.
FGA mainly focuses on building the capacity of the local people using the human energy for community development. It also works on healthcare, income generation, women empowerment and conservation fields.
Church built in burial ground dismantled

PASIGHAT, May 26: A church has been destroyed, which was allegedly constructed at a Community Burial Ground at Pasighat GTC colony.
According to report, local people had set an ultimatum of 15 days to the encroachers to free the land.
The local people of the area lodged a written complaint with the East Siang Deputy Commissioner urging early action against the encroachers. Accordingly, the district administration dealt with the case and conducted hearing regarding the land dispute on April 19 last.
District administration sources informed that the disputed portion falls under government
notified land and the encroachers, during the hearing could not produce any document
in support of their claim/occupation. The authority therefore issued notice to the
encroachers under section-
The people have claimed that the authority assured to pass demolition order against the illegal construction in the burial ground, but no action was taken from the authority’s end even after passage of one month from the date of issuance of eviction order.
Located at right bank of Sibo Korong (River), the Golung is the only common burial place for the villagers of JN College campus, GTC colony, Tebo village, Raneghat and adjoining areas and it had been in use for performing last rites of the dead, since 1950.
Police and administrative officials today rushed to the spot (Golung) to defuse the situation.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) strongly condemned the demolition of the church at GTC area Pasighat and demanded authority to bring the culprits to book and initiate strong action against them.
In a secular and democratic country like ours in which the freedom to practice one’s own religion is enshrined in the Constitution such actions should not be condoned.

Villagers lodge complaint against Army
ITANAGAR, May 26: The villagers of Kibitho and Wallong circle of Anjaw district sought the intervention of Secretary Defence in freeing their agricultural land from illegal occupation of Sikh Regiment, 82 Mountain division Lohitpur.
In its representation to the Secretary Defence, the Meyor Welfare Association, on behalf of the villagers, said that the Sikh Regiment deployed at Lohitpur have illegally occupied agricultural land of both the villages for construction of Bunker at Barakhundun without maintaining the due process of land Acquisition Act.
The Army had neither taken any permission from the district administration nor the owners of the land before acquisition of the land, the representation said.
An injunction was also passed by the district administration prohibiting the Army from constructing Bunker at Barakhundun following a complaint lodged by the villagers. But Army did not comply with it, the representation said.
The association had also submitted a representation to the Commandant of the Regiment registering its strong protest against illegal occupation of land and defying administration injunction. “By doing so, the Army has not only violated the human rights but also snatched villagers’ livelihood,” the representation said and appealed to the defence secretary to pass necessary directive to the Sikh Regiment deployed at Lohitpur to stop such unwanted and arbitrary construction in agricultural land without following the requisite legal formalities.
GANGTOK, May 26: Parliamentarians and legislators from Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Meghalaya and experts from different organizations deliberated on ‘Climate Change and the need for Legislation’ theme today here at Gangtok.
The meet of lawmakers and experts discussed on various issues on climate change and its related issues and made suggestions on how the eleven Himalayan States of India can collectively work in addressing these challenges.
Reports on issues arising due to climate change in their respective states were also shared during the deliberations held as a side event of the ‘2nd Sustainable Mountain Development Summit’ of Indian Mountain Initiative (IMI).

Environment conservation and sustainable development should go side by side and so there is a need to sensitize the people on relation between these two subjects, said Gyaltsen. He added that when traditional and indigenous knowledge moulds with modern technology, sustainable development happens.
The Speaker stressed that until the people are sensitized, enforcement of laws would not be effective. Environment protection should be a people’s movement, he said.

ITANAGAR, May 26: A two days training, demonstration and input distribution programme on climate change resilient agricultural technologies for livelihood improvement of the farmers of Changlang district was conducted at Jairampur, Changlang on May 24.

Chairing the programme, Dr. R. Bhagawati, Joint Director, ICAR, A.P. Centre, Basar highlighted the vagaries of climate change in farming sector and possible mitigation strategies. He delivered a presentation on “Issues and strategies for agricultural development in Changlang district and briefly described the plant protection measures for the common diseases of important crops grown in the district. Dr. Bhagawati also assured to provide necessary technology backstopping from ICAR for overall development of agriculture in the district.
Dr. V.K. Choudhary, Scientist, Agronomy gave presentation on “improved cultivation practices of Rice, Maize and Soybean.” He also briefly described SRI and Jalkund Technology. Dr. Pranabjyoti Sarma, SMS, Horticulture and Coordinator of the Programme delivered presentation on “Commercial cultivation of Orange, Banana and Okra”.
He also highlighted the importance of low cost polyhouse technology for cultivation of high value crops under adverse weather condition while Anup Chandra, Scientist, Entomology gave presentation on “Integrated pest management of Rice, Maize, Soybean, Orange, Banana ad Okra” and Dr M. Kanwat, SMS Agril. Extension delivered presentation on “Formation of SHG, Farmers’ Club and awareness on KCC.
Raghuveer Singh, Scientist, Plant Pathology gave presentation on “Integrated disease management of Rice, Maize, Soybean, Orange, Banana ad Okra”. He also gave a hand on demonstration on mushroom production technology. Dr. Doni Jini, Scientist, Animal Science highlighted the “Backyard poultry farming with Vanaraja”. Altogether, 276 farmers from different villages and Self Help Groups, officers from line departments, public leaders of Changlang district attended the programe.
The farmers were distributed 6 quintals Ranjit variety of Rice; 15 quintals DMH 849 variety of Maize; 6 quintals JS 335 variety of Soybean; 1.8 quintals Arka Anamika variety of Okra, 500 saplings of tissue cultured banana cultivar Grand Naine; 4000 nucellar seedlings of Khasi Mandarin; 50 kg Oyester Mushroom spawn; 1000 day old chicks of Vanaraja poultry bird and feeds and medicines. Moreover, they were also distributed 3 rolls of 200 micron UV stabilized polyfilm; 3 rolls of Shadenet and 5 rolls of Sailpaulin for construction of protected structures and Jalkund. Shri G.
