Farmer-scientist interaction prog at Basar

BASAR, May 18: In all, 50 participants and PRI members from Bam and its nearby villages took part in a farmer-scientist interaction on organic farming, organized by the Department of Agriculture at New Bam village, Basar on Thursday.
During the programme, Agriculture Assistant Director, Toli Bam highlighted the importance of organic farming, while Basar Science ICAR Scientist Veterinary, Dr Doni Jini dwelt on the role of veterinary science in improving the agriculture sector. Dr Jini further urged upon the participants to give emphasis on rearing of Van Raja (a breed of poultry bird) in poultry farming and suggested deep litter system of piggery farming.
Basar ICAR Scientist Agronomy, Dr Mardock gave detailed information regarding cultivation of leguminous crop in maintaining organic cultivation. He also spoke about green manure in order to achieve total organic and maintain soil fertility.
West Siang Agriculture Deputy Director, M Sumnian and Agriculture Development Officer Basar also spoke on the occasion.
