Open Potrang Lake to pilgrims: AVP

ITANAGAR, Feb 16: The Arunachal Vikash Parishad (AVP), Taksing block unit in Upper Subansiri district has appealed to the state government to open the Potrang (Pur ang Yamju) Lake near the Indo-China border in the district for pilgrims and general visitors.
“Before the Chinese aggression in 1962, the lake, located in Tsari-Neenah area near the border line was open for pilgrimage and thousands of pilgrims from around the world would visit it, considering it is one of the holiest places for Buddhists,” the AVP unit said. It further said that opening of the lake for pilgrims will not only promote adventure tourism and cultural heritage, but also generate employment opportunities for the people of this region. It is a 10-hour journey on foot from Taksing circle headquarters to reach Potrang Lake, it added.
