ITANAGAR, May 19: Displeased with the apathetic attitude of North East Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) authorities towards the demands made by project affected people of Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project (RHEP), the RHEP MoU Demand Committee has announced to organize a series of democratic action against the Power Corporation starting with a peaceful dharna in front of RHEP Head of Project complex on May 22 next.
In a press conference held at Arunachal Press Club (APC) here on Friday, RHEP MoU Demand Committee chairman, Taba Techi alleged the NEEPCO Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) of misleading the land affected people project area and the state government as well saying that they could have addressed their ‘genuine’ demands decades ago.
Expressing resentment over curtailment of job opportunities to the project affected people by NEEPCO, Techi further alleged NEEPCO CMD of blatantly misleading the state government by declaring that 179 local employees have been already recruited in Group C & D at RHEP.
‘The NEEPCO CMD has to disclose the names, designation, year of recruitment and present place of posting and permanent residential addresses of those 179 employees within a week and if the authorities fail to authenticate their claims then the RHEP MoU Demand Committee will lodge an FIR against the said officer,’ Techi stated.
While questioning the need for implementing the new National Hydro Power Policy under Ministry of Power, GoI for implementation of various provisions under NRRP, 2007 & NHPP 2007, the Committee asserted that there is already a policy in place i.e, (NHPP 2008 & SHPP 2018) which directly benefits the land affected people.
‘NEEPCO has spent Rs. 208.08 lakhs in Kameng Hydro Electric Project and Rs. 142.95 lakhs in Pare HEP even before the projects were commissioned but have spent only Rs. 42.95 lakhs in RHEP despite the project being in operation since January 2002 under CSR-CD works,’ it further alleged.
“According to 1:9 ratio there should be 707 job vacancies against the RHEP but till date only around 208 have recruited, which shows that NEEPCO authority have been undermining the sentiments of land donors, Techi claimed and demanded immediate recruitment of remaining vacancies in RHEP from among qualified and eligible candidates from the project affected people, land donors and APST in all A, B, C, D groups as per the norms.
Earlier the Committee postponed the scheduled phase-wise democratic movement following the assurance of Chief Minister Pema Khandu. However, sufficient time has been given to both NEEPCO Ltd & state government since submission of its memorandum on July 25, 2016 and now committee will not stop till its demands are fulfilled’, Techi declared.
‘After the first phase of peaceful dharna we will initiate series of democratic movement in terms of 24 hours NEEPCO bandh of RHEP office & Power House complex on June 19, 36 hours bandh of RHEP followed by indefinite RHEP bandh call on June 24 next’, he further disclosed.
