Run up to the under 17 FIFA World Cup Football event

ITANAGAR, Apr 20: In order to develop the interest of youths towards the game of football, the Prime Minister’s Football Tournament (under 19 for boys and girls) will be played from May to August 2017 in various states/ UTs as “Run up to the Under-17 FIFA World Cup 2017”, to be held from September to October, 2017.
The tournaments for both boys and girls will be organized by the CAPFs across the country in consultation with Kendriya Vidyalaya, SGFI, IPSC and state football clubs. This was informed by the Itanagar ITBP Commandant during a meeting with Capital Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan at his office on Thursday.
In Arunachal, the tournament will be organized by the ITBP from May 1 to 10 and will be participated by two teams each (boys and girls) from Kendriya Vidyala Sangathan, SGFI, IPSC and local football clubs.
It was further informed that total of 16 teams were finalized and are ready to face the league matches.
The opening and closing ceremony will be organized at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun and rest of the league matches will be played at Sangey Ladhen Sports Academy, Chimpu, Itanagar. The Chief Minister is expected to attend the event.
Taking stock of the sporting activities being organized by the ITBP/ CAPFs, Dhawan said that it is a golden opportunity for the youths of the state, as the CAPFs are eyeing to recruit young and emerging players in the CAPFs, adding that the promising players will get a chance to represent the country in the Asian Championship.
A Selection Committee will select the U-19 team of each state/ UT after assessing the performance of all the players participating in the first phase and the team selected from the state will go on to participate in the second phase, he added. (DIPRO)
