NHPC bets big on hydro power projects in Arunachal Pradesh
ITANAGAR, Aug 01: NHPC Limited is betting big on Arunachal Pradesh which is estimated
to have hydro-power potential of more than 50,000 MW.
SK Garg CMD of NHPC Limited said "Arunachal Pradesh has huge hydro potential. The
state is estimated to have potential of 50,000 MW of which some 400 MW has been tapped.
We will focus on Arunachal this year and are working on 6 projects, one of which
is under construction. It has identified 6 projects with a capacity of 10,000 MW,
of which one 2000 MW plant is under construction."
The other projects in Arunachal Pradesh are Diwang with a capacity of 3,000 MW which
is under construction, Tawang I and Tawang II with a capacity of 1,500 MW, Subansiri
Middle with 1,600 MW capacity and Subansiri Upper with 2,000 MW capacity. It has
capacity addition plans for the XI and XII plans with a CAPEX of INR 21,600 crore
for the XI plan and INR 30,000 crore for the XII plan. It has firmed up investments
of INR 70,000 crore till 2020 to scale up its capacity to 20,000 MW.
During the current plan, it wants to invest INR 21,000 crore in 11 projects with
a capacity of 4,622 MW. He said "Beyond XI Plan, we are in the process of executing
16 projects with a capacity of 14,000 MW. These will come up between 2012-20. By
2020, we hope to cross 10,000 MW and beyond 2020, we hope to cross 20,000 MW."
Garg said "It plans to open eight to nine power stations by the end of 2012. It has
identified 16 projects with installed capacity of 14,000 MW in Arunachal, Uttarakhand,
Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim and Manipur. It is also looking at Bhutan and Myanmar.
We have been asked to prepare Detailed Project Reports for three projects in Bhutan
with a capacity of 3,000 MW. One has been submitted and two will be submitted by
Demands for new district gains momentum
ITANAGAR, Aug 01: Past and present Panchayat leaders and representatives of organizations
of Nari-Koyu and Likabali assembly constituencies have called on the Chief Minister
for creation of Lower Siang district inclusive of Nari Koyu constituency with Nari
or Likabali as its temporary headquarters.
The demand is necessitated because of multi pronged problems being faced by the people
of area as it continues to be at the middle of border dispute with Assam and lack
of socio economic development in the area, the leaders said.
The leaders further added that permanent headquarter of the proposed district should
be created at an accessible central area near to Assam-Arunachal boundary.
It further said that Feasibility report submitted by present DC West Siang be withdrawn
and earlier recommendations sent by administrators of East and West Siang be taken
in into considerations without further reference.

committee to gear up its activities.

Lowangcha will look after Tirap, B R Wage East Kameng & West Kameng, Tamiyo Taga
gets the charge of West Siang while Dominic Tadar will look after Papum Pare and
Tai Tagak will be in charge of Kurung Kumey and Lower Subansiri while Tayek Goi gets
East Siang, Sotai Kri gets Anjaw, Dibang Valley, Lohit, Lower Dibang valley Districts.
Niri Chongrowju and Prem Thilley will look after Tawang while Doni Nich is in charge
of Upper Siang and Kangir Jamoh gets Changlang.
On the other hand, members of Itanagar capital district Mahila Morcha has called
for nomination of a woman as its candidate from Itanagar constituency for the coming
legislative assembly election.
This call was made at a meeting of the District Mahila (Itanagar capital district)
Cadres Meeting which was held today under the chair of its president Tame Yam Natung.
Women empowerment, 33% seat reservation for woman in parliament and state assemblies
were other issues discussed in the meeting.
The cadres recalled that the Bharatiya Janata Party has always been standing for
the cause of women empowerment in the country and that it is the only political party
to give 33% reservation for women in the party organization, in parliament and state

Children to go hiking under the initiative of Muskan
ITANAGAR, August 1: Muskan Society is organizing a Hiking expedition in collaboration
with Raj Bhavan and department of Tourism in Banderdewa area on Aug 2.
The State First Lady Anupama Singh, who is the President of Muskan is initiating
the expedition in an effort to inculcate spirit of adventure and to develop close
association with nature in the young minds. In addition to it, the endeavour by the
Muskan and Tourism department will go a long way in promoting adventure tourism in
the State, which has huge potential for it.
Thirty students from Vivekananda Kendriya Vidhyalaya, Banderdewa along with senior
officers of State government and Police and members of the Muskan Society will be
taking part in it. The participants will be going on a track, through hillock, dense
forest and enjoy paranoiac view of the plains of Assam.
The expedition will be flagged off by the First Lady. It will start from Firing Range
of PTC, Banderdewa, going towards West and turn to South, then will culminate at
the Range site again, covering a distance of more then five kilometer.
It may be mentioned here that on initiation of the Raj Bhavan, the Tourism department
in collaboration with department of Sports and Youth Affairs and logistic support

NSS fresher orientation held at NERIST
ITANAGAR, Aug 01: The National Social Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of NERIST organized
the Fresher’s Orientation Program at the NERIST Auditorium this morning.
The function was attended by Program Officers, Student Group Leaders, student volunteers
and about 150 newly enrolled NSS volunteers.
The NSS Cell NERIST has a total strength of about 750 volunteers.
To mark the day, volunteers of the NSS planted trees inside NERIST campus. The NSS
Cell also adopted a model play ground inside the campus which will be maintained
Earlier State Liaison officer, Dr. V.N. Sharma and the Co-ordinator of NSS Cell NERIST,
Prof. Binay Singh addressed the Orientation Programme.
Speaking on the occasion the chief guest Dr. V.N. Sharma stressed on the role of
the youth in the development of the society. He said that if every youth of the country
spare few hours for the service to the nation, the country will be a very different
place to live in. Youth just need proper direction and they can change the direction
of wind, he added.
The coordinator while welcoming all the new volunteers highlighted the objectives,
principles and motto of NSS. He presented a proposal of the various programs, which
includes tree plantation, blood donation, and special off campus camp that are to

Citizens renovate link road
ITANAGAR, Aug 01: People of Nyokum Lapang today renovated an entire stretch of Colony
In the day long voluntary social service, the 220 meters colony ring road, which
was open in 1994 by the Nyokum Lapang Welfare Committee has been renovated for the
benefits of the people at the cost of Rs.3, 35,000 out of which the public contributed
a sum of Rs. 1, 25, 000 while Public Leader Techi Kasso contributed Cement, sand,
vehicle and physical support.
The road left unused for more than a decade because of its bad condition.

One house gutted down
PASIGHAT: At least one OBT house was completely gutted down in a fire accident at
Yagrung village, East Siang District this morning. However, no causality was reported
and police team is investigating the matter to ascertain the cause of accident.
Meanwhile, MLA Bosiram Siram immediately rushed to the spot and donated an amount
of Rs 10,000 to the victim Tapak Tatan and appealed the local administration to immediately
compensate the victim.
