Nyokum Yullo

ITANAGAR, Feb 27: The Nyokum Yullo, major festival of the Nyishi community was celebrated in various parts of the state with traditional fervor on February 26.

Addressing the gathering on the festive occasion at Yachuli, local MLA cum Parliamentary Secretary, Likha Saaya called upon the people to preserve their own culture and tradition. He further said, such kind of festival provide a common platform for people irrespective of their caste and creed to promote brotherhood and harmony.

Highlighting the achievement in his constituency, the MLA sought people’s cooperation for rapid development. He also assured to sanction fund for infrastructure development of the ground like construction of a store room and toilet.

While lauding the Nyishi community for preserving their rich tradition and culture since time immemorial, Yachuli ADC Kento Peyang exhorted the community people; particularly youth to shoulder responsibility for educating the masses about the need of promoting  culture.   Besides cultural programmes, sports competitions were also organized to mark the celebration.

The Festival was also celebrated with six days programme at Yupia. The main attraction of the festivity was fashion show contest wherein Aman Yangfo  and Tana Demin won the Mr and Mrs Nyokum title respectively.

Impressed with the first ever colourful celebration of the Nyokum Yullo at district headquarters, Chief Engineer (Power) Anong Perme called upon the festival organizing committee to keep up the same tempo and continue the celebration in future.  Among others, IT director S Dey Sarker was also present.

Participating in the Nyokum celebration at Sango village under Phassang circle, Transport Minister Jarkar Gamlin emphasized on preservation of culture and tradition.

In her address, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women Chairman Gumri Ringu called for empowerment of women in the society and asked the people to fight against child marriage and polygamy. Among others, former minister Tater Kipa, former MLA Kipa Babu and PPA chairman Kameng Ringu were present on the occasion.

Earlier, Gamlin took part in the pre-Nyokum celebration at Leel on February 25.  Parliamentary secretary, tax and excise, Lokam Tassar, Sangram ZPM Tai Yapang also joined the celebration.

At Sangram, MLA Ralom Borang inaugurated the Nyokum Yullo  festival in presence of  huge gathering  including engineer Gumto Doji of power department, Ziro.

Participating in the Nyokum Yullo celebration at Changlang, parliamentary secretary, WRD, Thingaap Taiju called for documentation of culture and heritage for posterity.

SP T Amo and Er Charu Sakap also spoke on the occasion.  Other highlights of the celebration were traditional modern and Buya dances.

Nyokum  Yullo was also celebrated by the Nyishi people at Namsai and Mahadevpur on February 27 with traditional gaiety.

Addressing the gathering at Namsai, Additional Deputy Commissioner T Miso called upon the people to work together for unity, peace and prosperity. Among others, Panchayat members, Govt officials attended the celebration.

At Kimin, the10th ITBP personnel played the role of perfect host for grand celebration of the Nyokum Yullo at the Mini Football Stadium.  

.The main attraction of the celebration was the spectacular performance by the ITBP Jazz Band. ITPB Commandant Rajesh Kumar Tomar highlighted the activities of the Himveers for welfare of common people on the occasion. He also informed about the on-going year-long  golden Jubilee celebration of the ITPB. Among others, MLA S R Subha from Assam also  present.

Arunachalee students studying in Tamil Nadu also celebrated the Nyokum with much fanfare in Gobichettipalayam Erode district.  Cultural progamme, sports competition and Mr and Mrs Nyokum contest were the main attraction of the celebration.
